The gold coast is a hub for tourism and fun and has become a real big craft beer area, with the emergence of many a breweries and micro breweries all over the region.
Somebody needed to try them all, so who was better equiped than myself to give them a go myself. I struggled through slurry words, hangovers and the rollicking from the wife. But i did it in the name of research.
So here we have it after whittling them down we now have the top 3 craft breweries on the Gold Coast.
Top 3 Breweries
Formerly known as having top surfer Mick fanning as a co owner, now Balter lies under the ownership of alcohol giant Carlton & United Breweries.
Balter has grown over the years and now produces there beer all over Australia and beyond.
Located in the industrial estate in Currumbin waters
By far the most popular is the Balter XPA, it’s one of there first and certainly one there finest. Fruity and hoppy with tropical and floral aromas and coming in at 5% abv.
Another great selection is the Balter Lager with its citrus aroma and smoothness makes for a gentle and easy to drink lager. 4.6% abv

Winner of many national and international awards and with a host of beers sold nationwide. Burleigh Brewery now holds 38 World medals, 22 of which are gold. An impressive feet for this small brewery.
Located in Burleigh Heads Industrial estate about 30 minutes from Surfers Paradise.
I’ll pick 2 of my favourites from here, firstly “Big Head” a carb free beer, the first in Australia. Which is so smooth and light, great for those hot days on the coast. Coming in at 4.2% abv.
Secondly is Twisted Palm 4.% abv, a tropical pale ale with fruity aromas. A smooth and very refreshing drink, which has many accolades including winning World Beer Championship Gold Medal in Chicago in 2020.

Fortitude delivers a range of beers that are well-balanced, using top quality ingredients and an integrity to a brewing process that delivers bold and strong flavours.
Located at the end of Long Road strip of Eagle Heights, and on the site of the ever popular Witches Chase Cheese Company.
Fortitude Summer would be my first pick, as the name lends Summer, its hoppy, toasted wheat and with stone fruit aromas with the aim to be smooth throughout the hot summer months. 4.4 % abv.
Secondly I came to enjoy the Irish Stout, bold flavours with malt and flaked barley based. A great beer for the colder winter months on the mountain 4% abv.
The Taphouse at Fortitude is unique with its open glass wall so you can watch the workers produced the beer as you sup away.
Tasting paddles are available allowing to try 5 of the Fortitude beers in tasting sizes
The taphouse has a pizzeria for soaking up those beers with a mix of traditional and gourmet pizzas. As mentioned the brewery is on the same site as the cheese factory and cheese platters are also available from there. To further accommodate this local wines by Bird Dog Wines and Witches Falls Wines are available

These would certainly be my top 3 choices on the Gold Coast, and with there nationwide exposure they certainly standout above the rest. With many a craft beer bars stocking there products.
A couple of other notable breweries would be Piggled Pig, Lost Palms and Black Hops, slightly smaller scale breweries but still a fine selection and good beer.
An hour and 15 minutes from the coast in Byron Bay is one other notable mention and probably Australia’s best known craft brewery Stone and Wood. I have never visited myself however have tried many, maybe to many times the pacific ale another top craft beer to try.
Hopefully this will help you on your way to some beer tasting on the Gold Coast many of these breweries feature in our favourite restaurants and cafes on the Gold Coast.
Class and sophistication is the key at Social Eating House on The Gold Coast. This relaxed yet formal dining experience. Set in a quiet corner of Broadbeach only emphasizes the relaxed nature of this venue.
Impressively Social is the winner of three consecutive years of the People’s Choice ‘Chef of the Year’ Award, and even more impressive is Matthew Jefferson is the Owner, Operator and Executive Chef of this fine restaurant.
Located on the Oracle Boulevard, tucked just behind the Oracle building. Located in a quiet spot, however only minute walk to the centre of Broadbeach.
The food is based around share plates small and large with a variety of influences from all over the world.
Musts would be the roast quail or the wagyu tartare from the small plates and slow cooked lamb shoulder in yoghurt or twice cooked pork belly in chilli and tamarind for mains.
And please please please, try the cheesecake pannacota with stewed rhubarb and yoghurt sponge. Its divine, i can honestly say a pannacota has never tasted so smooth.
Presentation of food is considered a art form at Social with almost art like dishes, but what makes it stand out is the quality to match it that that is a stand out for us.
A little slice of Vietnam on the Gold Coast. Located a bit out of the city in the suburb of Runaway bay lies Can Tho Kitchen.
A once uninspired dining room was transformed and modernised a few years back and Can Tho kitchen has never looked back. The modernisation has really bought a sense of comfort and sleek look. And yet has enriched the vibrant Vietnamese feel.
Located in the quiet northern Gold Coast area of Runaway Bay. 20 minutes from the center of Surfers Paradise. Can Tho Kitchen lies in a little shopping village
The food at Can Tho is a great mix of traditional Vietnamese cuisine with contemporary twists.
The food has always been second to none, known for there homemade Vietnamese pancakes (Bahn Xeo). With fresh and vibrant rice paper rolls and flavorsome bowls of Pho is not hard to see why Can Tho is a leading player in the Gold Coast food scene.
Other inspiring dishes on the menu include Bo Kho (braised beef cheek) and sizzling yummy chicken. Which is brought out on a sizzling steamy hot plate, adding a bit of drama and tasting great.
And not forgetting the afters. A waffle co e featuring the most delicious Macadamia ice cream, dolce de leche and peanut crumbs.
Alternatively and our favourite dessert is a liquid one with a fine list of contemporary and traditional cocktails your be spoilt for choice.
Edgewater Dining, Gold Coast offers upmarket modern Australian cuisine with a slight Italian twist.
Opened in 2014 Edgewater quickly became a premium destination for quality dining on the Gold Coast. With it’s river views onto the city, fine food and extensive cocktail list, it wasn’t long before it became a busy spot.
It’s a great mix of a formal set up, without being over the top and still having a casual feel about it, making it a very relaxing and enjoyable environment.
Location Of Edgewater Dining
Located in the residential area of the Isle Of Capri one of many neighbouring suburbs of Surfers paradise. It takes river side placement in the Via Roma on Capri Centre. Edgewater is one of many Isle Of Capri restaurants that have popped up over the last few years in this location.
The food and drink delivers to, more of a formal dining experience than the share plate theme the Gold Coast adopts. With a grand open kitchen and team of experienced chefs on hand. Edgewater prides itself on quality food all produced homemade on site. Employer one of the best teams of experienced chefs around.
With a great selection of menu items like lemon pepper calamari and pork tacos to start and sticky pork belly and grass fed eye fillet for mains. Note: the calamari is some of the best we have ever had, crispy juicy and packed full of flavour.
The Eton Mess is a must and is a dessert Edgewater is known for and doing its just perfectly. Alternatively a liquid dessert in the form of a cocktail is also quite a tremendous idea. Our pick would be the selection of Espresso Martinis, with lots of different combinations to choose from.
Shop 3 G7, Capri on Via Roma, Isle of Capri ,Surfers Paradise, Queensland, 4217

The history of the Gold Coast Australia is one of fast development since WW2.
After WW2 the South Coast region of Queensland was a popular holiday destination for servicemen returning from the war. From then on and with inflated prices for real estate and other goods and services led to the nickname of “Gold Coast” in the early 50s.
As tourism grew throughout the decade businesses began to adopt the term in their names, and a memorable day the 23 October 1958 the South Coast Town Council was renamed “Gold Coast Town Council”. One year later the Gold Coast was labelled a city.
By the late 60s Surfers Paradise had established itself as the main destination and then the crazy introduction of bikini-clad meter maids in 1965 the aim to feed parking meters to prevent holiday makers from getting parking fines was a particularly popular innovation. And even still alive to this day.
The 70s came along and with that did the high rise boom followed 10 years later by the Gold Coast Airport, making the Gold Coast Australia number one holiday destination.
During the 80s the introduction of the 5 theme parks that lie there today (see in list) only solidified its presence as a number one destination.
The turn of the century bought a real estate boom with it’s economical peak in 2005 with the opening of the 322.5m ‘Worlds Tallest Residential Tower’ Q1, in Surfers Paradise.
To this day the Gold Coast continues to grow and strengthen its position establishing itself as a international destination to add to its domestic success.
The Gold Coast is not is not one place that is short of things to do and see, its the number one destination in Australia for fun and entertainment and boy do they do it well.
You would think making a top 40 list would be hard but, and to be honest we probably haven’t even scratched the service.
Located half way up the east coast of Australia, an hour south of Brisbane and hour north of Byron Bay.
This beautiful city is made up of a number of suburbs along the coast line forming the Gold Coast as a whole.
The Gold Coast has it’s own international airport in Coolongatta on the south end of the coast. Services many parts of Asia and domestic Australia routes

Many more things that didn’t make the list but could easily of been included. Maybe one day we would need to do a volume 2.
Hidden away behind the large white wooden doors on the Gold Coast Highway, is this hidden little gem, you’d say speakeasy as other than the music it is relatively unseen. With just a little red lantern shining out the front to distinguish Etsu themselves say “look for the red lantern”. And here your find Etsu Japanese restaurant.
Enter through the doors and through the tunnel shaped bar area and don’t forget to look up at the impressive half pipe (yes half pipe skate ramp) as a ceiling. And into the large dining area of share and private tables.
Etsu is a popular Japanese restaurant on the Gold Coast with a reputation beyond the Coast. The owners must know a thing or two with there other popular business Commune Cafe.
Location Etsu Gold Coast
Located in the ever popular and trendy suburb of Mermaid Beach, a short couple of minutes to Broadbeach and only 10 minutes from the central hub of Surfers paradise.
The food at Etsu is second to none, with a large variety of Japanese inspired food, one of a kind on the Gold Coast.
There are 3 parts to the menu and indeed the kitchen with the raw bar (sushi), the main kitchen and the robarta (a specific Japanese grill).
Most of the food is served with the assumption of sharing with small plates and many options to try. We personally recommend five, but you know yourselves how hungry or in our case tempted we might be.
Our favourites would be the sashimi plate, mixed seafood or individual fish choices can be made, the produce is always fresh and of top quality. For a cooked sushi suggestion the Spider Maki (soft shell crab)is always a great choice.
Homemade pork gyoza, chicken tsukune (chicken meatball) and the 72 hour marinated black miso cod are by far our favourite selections.
For something larger to share the miso pork ribs are not only delicious, but super tender falling off the bone with ease.
The bar at Etsu is equally impressive, with an array of modern and traditional cocktails, the finest selection of Japanese whiskey your find anywhere and top quality Saki. Making this not only one of the best Gold Coast restaurants but also bars.
The reputation of Etsu as a restaurant on the Gold Coast has grown and grown over the years and that’s why its a multi award winning restaurant. So much so it has also featured in our Best Restaurants Gold Coast list and sits proudly up the top.
With it’s multicultural dining scene and vast variety of food, the Gold Coast offers a little something for everyone. The Vegan restaurants scene has exploded over the last 5 years, and not jus the run of the mill restaurants, a list of top quality establishments with a vast variety of plant based cuisines.
Although not a vegan myself i have enjoyed such restaurants, the wholesome meals have certainly benefitted me. And i have certainly enjoyed trying all these on the list.
Taking Vegan food to new heights is the Cardamom Pod. Bright, energised and flavourome food, for someone who is non vegan my most visited cafe in the last few years was the Cardamom pod.
You must try the Indian Dosa, this homemade Dosa with spiced potatoes is to die for. Another favourite would be the vege big breakfast, I love the peanut fritters on here.
This cafe is also renowned for its elaborate range of acai bowls which taste amazing and are certainly insta worthy captures.
The Cardamom Pod is as popular as they come on the Gold Coast and with that said was also a worthy entrant in our Best Cafes guide.
3/3 Brolga Avenue, Southport 4215
8 am to 3pm
Starting off as a market stall selling vegan raw desserts, one stall quickly became 2 within the first year. Fast forward and Blendlove opened up there own premises and still sticking with the fantastic raw desserts also expanded into a 100% plant based cafe.
Menu items consist of and a couple of our favourites are the corn fritters paired with avocado salsa and corn relish and the magic mushrooms with field mushrooms and Blendlove’s own kale and walnut mince top with vegan cashew aioli.
The raw desserts are ever changing and are sold individually or in packs with plenty of variety they boast vegan, gluten free, dairy free and free from any refined sugar and I can say are delicious.
They were right I do like ramen, and this vegan take is as good a bowl of Ramen that I have ever had. Known for being Australia’s first vegan Ramen restaurant.
The food here is as delicious as it is photogenic, flavours are through the roof and although im someone who does enjoy meat I certainly would not miss it here.
The kimchi ramen with red miso spicy kimchi broth and the mapo tofu ramen with is a creamy broth, oat milk being the vegan alternative here are our two favourite ramens. Both slightly different, but packed with a punch of flavour.
The name suggest only one type of food here, well your wrong. Panko mushroom bao’s, and karage cauliflower add something different and believe me all the selection of bao’s are delicious.
Asahi on tap and a great selection of fine whiskies make this place a firm favourite hangout.
2/2251 gold coast highway, mermaid beach, 4218
Monday 5pm to 9 pm
Wednesday to Sunday 11:30am to Late
I wont lie here, this is the only place I have never been to and I hate recommending somewhere I haven’t visited. However from multiple sources I have heard this is a cracking place for food.
One thing that struck me was that Izakaya Midori is tucked away in a back street in small suburb of Ready Creek. Making this a destination venue and not only does it take balls and confidence in what you do to open a destination restaurant. To go with a plant based Japanese restaurant the first of its kind in Queensland is impressive.
With such dishes like Tempeh and unami sushi, king mushroom ceviche and the Midori plant based ramen, they all look drool worthy and a place we can’t wait to try.
50 Woodland Drive, Reedy Creek QLD 4227, Australia
Sunday to Thursday 11:00am to 8:30pm
Friday and Saturday 11:00am to 10:30pm
Greenhouse Canteen & Bar
Greenhouse Canteen has been a leading player in the Gold Coast Vegan scene since 2014. With its recycled timber fit out and sweeping views across water to Surfers paradise, veganism entered a new age.
The owners disappointed with the Vegan options on the Gold Coast decided to offer something new and something trendy. After moving premises to the suburb of Miami Greenhouse has never looked back.
With small plates such as Cauliflower Wings (Delicious) an mushroom and sage Arancini Balls make a perfect start.
To follow you cant go passed the Jackfruit Enchilada, full of flavour, and Jackfruit is not something if I’m honest i have enjoyed in the pass. But this was delicious. The Eggplant Moussaka is equally as good, tasty and hearty with that punch of flavour it needs.
1916 GC Highway, Miami, Gold Coast QLD
5pm to Late
So thats our best vegan restaurants Gold Coast list. A great array of choices offering something completely different between them all and featuring the best plant based eateries. Hard to pick a favourite but with Cardamom Pod making the best cafe list, it would certainly make for a stand out.
There are many many more Vegan restaurants to try on the Gold Coast hopefully soon we can add to the list we have tried.
Built at the back of a small precinct in Mermaid Beach lies Bonita Bonita, undoubtedly one of the best Mexican restaurants on the Gold Coast. A renowned place for it flavorsome food and sticking to native Mexican ways.
With its dark lights, candles and Mexican décor brings this restaurant to life, the sound of authentic Mexican music in the background all sets the scene for this unique experience.
